The Boreas wolves are a conglomerate of smaller “satellite” packs that dominate the Taiga. They follow a patriarchal monarchy and have been established for generations, and while they don’t take kindly to neighboring packs who don’t wish to join, they’re not actively trying to take over the biome either. That said, they’re hard to avoid.
Hallow was born and raised in one satellite pack, which the Jackdaws encountered early into their Y3 Winter exodus from the coniferous forest. It also happened that Hallow had soured relationships with that pack’s leader, having tried in vain to seduce his daughter in a power grab, and the Boreas wolves subsequently ushered the Jackdaws in to keep an eye on Hallow. They might have let the Jackdaws go without a fight after discerning Hallow’s motives, but in Y4 Spring, Diorite assaulted their leader Silverback and severed any hopes of a peaceful relationship. Though the attack “won” the Jackdaws their freedom, Diorite made an enemy of Silverback and vice versa.
That said, Silverback has extended a welcome to any stray Jackdaws, and not all Jackdaws share Diorite’s suspicion towards the Boreas wolves.
Known members
Note that none of these wolves are onsite, nor are they ever planned to be. Names are wardrobe links, which were modified from a randomly-generated wolf.
Silverback
The leader aka “lord” of a southwestern satellite pack. An aging wolf but no less capable fighter. Mildly skeevy, highly observant; cares highly about his image, but widely considered a fair and honest leader. Has had no luck producing a [male?] heir.
Mouse
Silverback’s [only? eldest?] daughter, and (for lack of another heir) something of a second-in-command; may be gunning for leadership when he dies. Turned down Hallow’s advances and had little protest when he left, having seen through his power-grabbing motives; years later, demanded the Jackdaws stick around so she could keep an eye on Hallow.
Cedarbark
The token healer. A wolf of few words, at least to outsiders, and showed clear disdain towards the notion of Andesite & other Jackdaws being welcomed to the pack. Probably sucks up to Silverback. Has some connection to foxes?
Jackrabbit Aspen
The first (and so far only) Jackdaw to join the Boreas wolves; son of Idril and Oriole, brother of Liesl, Grackle, and Osier. Having lost two of his littermates at puphood, and both mothers during adolescence, Jackrabbit grew distant from his birth pack. After consulting with his remaining family–Liesl, and their guardian-dads Drove and Hallow–and bonding with a Boreas wolf, Jackrabbit left the Jackdaws as a yearling.
Although the Jackdaws haven’t encountered him since, Liesl’s heard he’s still bouncin’ around Boreas. Good for him, she says, through gritted teeth.
